BIOMECHANICS

The correct movement of the body and joints when training and exercising is key to reduce injury and increase results.

WHAT IS BIOMECHANICS?

Intrinsic Biomechanics relates to patterns of how our body moves. Using a series of movement screening tests which have been developed using over 20 years of scientific research we form a pattern of how we move and why. It is then applying this knowledge to complete the jigsaw puzzle of each client and help them move more freely and perform better.

The areas assessed are the pelvis, spine, shoulder, knee and foot. I will briefly talk you through each test so you have an understanding of your body’s movements. Every client so far has left with a far deeper understanding of how their body moves and have learnt something new about those movement patterns. My aim is to get a better balance for you and off load some of the areas that are currently over loaded.

Q&A

Who can it help?
Anyone who has niggles or pain, I look at the cause not the symptoms e.g. Knee pain will likely be caused through problems with the hip or foot, or lower back pain through hip or shoulder issues. It can also significantly help those athletes wanting a quicker run or bike time or more fluid movement in the pool. It can be applied to any activity or movement.
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE IN PAIN to get the best from your body.

What do I wear?
Shorts and a sports bra for the ladies! Bring the trainers you do most of your activity in.

Do you treat children?
Yes with a parent/guardian present.  Children generally respond very quickly, the joys of a young body!

Who have you treated in the past?
London Irish rugby player groin strain.
Competitive rower with lower back issues.
Reading FC goalkeeper groin strain.
Marathon runners, club cyclists not in pain but improved times.
Ironmen to avoid injury through a big training schedule.
Golfers to improve rotation and power.

“Three years ago a serious accident meant I needed reconstructive surgery to the ligaments of both knees. I had previously been an enthusiastic but not very effective runner. As part of the recovery process I had to learn to run again, and Rachel showed me how to take the opportunity to do it properly. Biomechanical analysis and coaching, as well as strength and flexibility training exercises helped me to recover and develop a more efficient running style. I’m now back to full fitness and hitting personal best times in 10k and half-marathons. Next challenge is an ironman!
